Salsa Accelerator

At the centre of every dance floor, there are the crowd favourites. Dancers who are confident, engaging and sought after. These people are usually everyone’s favourite to dance with on the dance floor.

You probably already know some of these people in your industry:

  • Their names come up in conversations, and everyone speaks of them highly.

  • They are booked out on the dance floor, with people asking them to dance all the time.

  • People stop to watch them and draw inspiration from them.

  • Everyone wants them in their social circles and teams and parties.

  • They are having the most fun dancing with everyone.

  • Favourite social dancers elevate and inspire others. They are fun to dance with but also usually have more fun themself while dancing. They are treated with respect and have opportunities flying at them.

Being a favourite social dancer that everyone wants to dance with takes more than just a set of techniques and moves. There are 5 key components that set dancers apart on the dance floor.

Phase 1: Our Salsa Methodology

The 5 main Building blocks of salsa and their importance to your dancing.

TIMING

01

The ability to count music, and move in synchronicity with the desired rhythm consistently.

Timing is the foundational framework that the dance in built on. There is nothing that can disrupt partner dance as much as poor timing.

02

BODY MOVEMENT

Solid understanding of technique, body movement and how to apply them consistently.

Learning body movement and technique is the first step towards looking at videos of yourself and loving your movement rather than hating it. Good technique gives you balance and stability and makes the dance more comfortable for you and your partner.

03

MUSICALITY

Understanding the build up salsa music and the ability to show contrast. Instantaneous musical interpretation during the dance.

Music is the most important element in dance. Dancing without musicality is like living without a soul. Learning about the music and how to interpret it gives you instant control and satisfaction. It increases the joy you, your partner and everyone else watching by an incredible extent.

04

CONNECTION

The ability to share steps, movement and patterns with clear lead/ follow technique expressively and consistently.

You can be the best dancer in the world but if you don’t know how to connect and make your partner enjoy the dance you won’t walk away from dances uplifted. Increasing your understanding of lead follow and making your partner priority is going to be what’s going to set you apart and make you everyone’s favourite social dancer.

05

REPERTOIRE

Up to date foodwork, turn patterns and body movement figures which showcase the contrast in the music consistently.

Dancing the same moves as everyone else doesn’t make you unique, special or desired. You need a extensive repertoire to be able to be keep partners engaged and stand out. Your movements, patterns and styling needs to be unique and exciting to make you stand out.

Phase 2: DEEP DIVE Program

Once you have solidified your foundations and are confidently dancing and attracting people around you.

You will find that you will want to look for a new challenge. You will want to learn more and continue your development.

Understand some history, culture and relate to what you’re doing on a deeper level. You will see people around you dancing that

are executing movements that look cool different and you will left out. Being good at salsa is not just about knowing salsa.

It’s about understanding the family of dances that contribute to the evolution of salsa.

There are 4 common types of movements that contribute to salsa the most, these are Rumba, Pachanga, Son and Afro.

These dances are the most popular and the most commonly danced on the dance floor. Furthermore salsa music often has rhythmic changes that call for dancing these movements. However majority of the dancers will just dance salsa through it and be unaware

of these musical changes. We cover this in the musicality section of the coaching program however we do a deep dive in the

second stage and make sure that you know and understand these movements in detail and are able to execute them at the right times.

This will not only improve your dancing, it will help you standout even more, draw peoples eyes and make you enjoy the

game on a much deeper level.

Rumba Guaguanco .jpeg

Rumba Guaguanco

Rumba Guaguanco is one of the national dances of Cuba representing a couple dance of sexual competition between a male and female. Rumba is danced and performed world wide and is one of the biggest influences in modern salsa dancing. With many songs having guaguanco breakdowns/rhythm changes it is essential that you understand the basics of rumba movement or you will not be able to acknowledge the rhythm changes or add contrast/playfulness to your dance.

Pachanga

Pachanga is a fun and funky genre of dance which is originated in Cuba as an offshoot of charanga music. This dance is amongst the most influential fusions of salsa as it is taught in most salsa schools all around the world. The music of “Charanga” and rhythms with heavy down beats such as Caballo, call for knowing and dancing pachanga well. Having contrast and musicality is what is going to lead to more exciting and fun dances rather than monotone repetitive dancing.

Son.jpg

SON

The dance Son emerging from what originally was called danzon, is the backbone of partner salsa dancing in the modern era. Modern salsa music regularly plays danzon rhythms and incorporate the danzon patterns. Knowing how to change your timing and movement to match these rhythm changes will add more contrast and musical interpretation. More musical interpretation = happier you = happier partner = happier people watching. Not knowing how to dance Son, Rumba and Pachanga and not acknowledging the appropriate rhythms will leave partners frustrated and will make you miss out on a whole lot of fun.

Afro cuban.jpeg

Afro Cuban

Afro Cuban dance/movements usually refer to cultural and religious dance rituals of worship and celebration emerging from Africa and mixing with other cultures in the Caribbeans. These movements are very commonly used in the form of fusion as an addition to salsa shows, performances and even socially. There are many different types of Afro cuban movements and they are the most complex type of movement to master and incorporate into your dancing. However their basic addition adds an incredible amount of fun, flavour and repertoire which you can use for creativity and expression. They make you stand out from everyone else and set your movements apart.

What our students say about our classes

lily.jpg

Lily

The program taught me how to systematically break down music, what sections are within salsa music and how to appropriately dance to them. Without the program, I would not have the con dence I now do when I dance and I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to do it

Vishu.jpg

I remember Arti always repeated in our private sessions - "Musicality Trumps Everything". That statement stuck in my mind forever.

Arti has been there as a parent, a mentor, a friend through out my dance journey constantly motivating

and encouraging me to achieve great things in my dance career. I am grateful to be part of such program, to have a mentor, a friend, a brother like him in my life encouraging me on every step of my dance journey.
